The year is 1517. Henry VIII has been on the throne for eight years, ruling after the deaths of his father and brother. Though there was much talk of his marriage to the infanta of Spain in order for an alliance to be created, the young king would hear none of it, preferring to remain a bachelor and allow the princess to return home if she wished. The freedom of kingship pleased him greatly, and he relished in no longer being the unwanted second son, destined for the clergy and a life in the background. Already he has been to war with France, seeking to emulate his father and grandfather on the battlefield.
Now, there is peace at home and abroad, the Tudor family secure upon the throne. In theory, anyhow. The King is being greatly pressured to take a wife, needing heirs to cement his position on the throne. Though reluctantly, Henry agrees, though not for the same reasons. The desire for a son is there, but he is still young, and desires more to show off for a favored lady, displaying his skills. He begins the search for his wife and queen, noble families from across England vying for positions at court to parade their daughters before him.
Still, not all is light and joyous. Rumors begin to spread of religious heresy catching fire from the Low Countries, spreading quickly. The hold of the Catholic Church over Europe is threatened, and war looms across the horizon. Bonds are forged, broken, and forged again as opinions change with the winds. England stands in the midst of this conflict, looking to their King for guidance. The peace that has long reigned over the land is quickly fleeing, and at court moreso than ever. Factions are forming, alliances made. Where do you stand?
